Summer Research Fellowship Program 2026 Announced by Indian Science Academies: Apply Before 31 January

Do you want to spend your summer working with some of India's best scientists? The three major national Science Academies have jointly announced the Summer Research Fellowship Program (SRFP) 2026. This is a golden opportunity for students and teachers to gain real-world research experience.

The fellowship is offered by the Indian Academy of Sciences (Bengaluru), Indian National Science Academy (New Delhi), and The National Academy of Sciences, India (Prayagraj). Selected candidates will get to work for two months in a research lab and will receive a monthly stipend to cover their expenses.

Who Can Apply? (Eligibility Criteria)

The academies have specific rules for who can join. Please read the criteria carefully before applying.

For Students

• Education Level: You must be currently enrolled in a specific year of your course:
  • BS / BSc / BVSc (II Year)
  • BPharm (III Year)
  • BE / BTech / BCA (II or III Year)
  • MS / MSc / MVSc / MPharm (I Year)
  • ME / MTech / MCA (I Year)
  • Integrated PhD (I or II Year)
• Marks: You need a minimum average of 65% marks in core subjects (excluding languages) from Class X onwards.
• Note: PhD students are not eligible to apply.

For Teachers

• Must be teaching at a College or University.
• The minimum percentage rule (65%) does not apply to teachers.

Benefits and Financial Support

This is a fully supported program. If you are selected, the Academies will take care of the costs:

• Travel: You will be reimbursed for your round-trip train fare to the research institute.
• Living Expenses: You will receive a monthly fellowship stipend to cover your food and stay.

How to Apply

The application process is entirely online. You do not need to send any hard copies. Follow these steps:

1. Prepare Documents: Scan your mark sheets (from Class X to last exam) in JPEG format (under 700kb each).
2. Write-Up: Write a short note (150–250 words) explaining the specific area you want to work in and what you hope to learn. Do not copy-paste a general description.
3. Teacher Recommendation: Students need to provide the contact details of a present teacher. The Academy will contact the teacher directly for a recommendation letter.
4. Submit Online: Visit the registration link below and fill in your details.
