C40 Cities Climate Leadership Group, a global network of nearly 100 mayors united in action to confront the climate crisis, is hiring a Sectoral Policy Intern for their Beijing Representative Office.
In China, 13 major cities (including Beijing, Shanghai, and Shenzhen) are part of this network. As an intern, you will work closely with the Sectoral Policy Manager to design and implement technical assistance programs in key sectors like Energy, Buildings, and Methane Mitigation. This is a paid opportunity where you will gain hands-on experience in city climate policy and international cooperation.
Key Responsibilities
You will work with multiple teams across the Beijing office and global teams. Your daily tasks will include:
1. Research & Program Design
- Research: Conduct desktop research and data collection on policies, technologies, and context for sectoral programs in China.
- Analysis: Support city analysis to check their alignment with C40 High Impact Actions (HIA) criteria.
2. Events & Communication
- Event Management: Support the planning and delivery of webinars, workshops, study tours, and conferences.
- Knowledge Products: Proofread English/Chinese translated reports and materials.
- Coordination: Schedule meetings, prepare materials, and take notes for internal and external partners.
3. Operational Support
- Support the procurement process, including translating contracts and processing invoices.
Eligibility Criteria: Who Can Apply?
C40 is looking for dynamic, self-starters who are passionate about climate action.
1. Academic Status & Location
- Student Status: You must be currently enrolled in a university/college.
- Work Rights: You must already have the right to work in Beijing, China. (Visa sponsorship is generally not provided for internships).
2. Skills & Languages
- Languages: Proficient written and verbal skills in both English and Mandarin are mandatory.
- Interest: Strong interest in city climate policy, energy transition, or methane mitigation.
- Soft Skills: Strong interpersonal communication and the ability to work in a multi-cultural setting.
3. Availability
- Working hours are flexible, but a minimum of 3 days per week is required.
Stipend & Benefits
This is a competitively paid internship for the region.
- Pay Rate: 355 CNY (Chinese Yuan) per day (Gross).
