The Regional Commissions New York Office (RCNYO) is seeking an Economic Affairs Intern for the Spring 2026 session. This office serves as the vital link between the five UN Regional Commissions (based in Africa, Europe, Latin America, Asia-Pacific, and Western Asia) and the UN Headquarters in New York.
Flexibility: While the internship is designed to be In-Person (35 hours/week) at the UN Headquarters, the posting explicitly states that the modality can be adjusted based on request. This flexibility makes it a viable option for candidates with varying circumstances.
Duties and Responsibilities
This role offers a front-row seat to global diplomacy. You will be attending high-level intergovernmental meetings. Key duties include:
1. Meeting Coverage & Reporting
- Attend (in-person) meetings of the General Assembly Committees and the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC).
- Take detailed notes and draft weekly reports to be disseminated to the Regional Commissions globally.
2. Drafting & Analysis
- Draft official documents, including background papers, inputs to publications, and sections of study reports.
- Conduct analysis and research on regional trends and the regional dimensions of Sustainable Development.
3. Logistics
- Provide logistical assistance during conferences and meetings organized by the Regional Commissions in New York.
Eligibility Criteria: Who Can Apply?
No prior work experience is required, making this an excellent entry-level opportunity for students.
1. Academic Status
You must meet one of the following criteria:
- Graduate Student: Enrolled in (or completed) a Masterβs or PhD programme.
- Undergraduate Student: Enrolled in (or completed) the final academic year of a Bachelorβs degree programme.
2. Skills & Language
- Language: Fluency in spoken and written English is mandatory.
- Skills: Strong writing and analytical skills are essential for drafting official UN documents.
