The Universal Postal Union (UPU), a specialized agency of the United Nations headquartered in Bern, Switzerland, is seeking an intern to support its Consultative Committee (CC). With 191 member countries, the UPU is the primary forum for cooperation between postal sector players worldwide.
This internship is unique because, unlike many general UN internships, UPU internships are typically remunerated (paid) in accordance with their internal HR rules. The role focuses on supporting the "Consultative Committee," which represents the wider postal sector stakeholders beyond just national post offices.
Duties and Responsibilities
The intern will report to the International Bureau’s Administration and Cabinet Directorate (DACAB). This is a hands-on, administrative role involving significant coordination duties.
1. Event & Meeting Coordination
- Logistics: Assist in organizing internal and external meetings (reserving rooms, sending invitations, coordinating participant availability).
- Matchmaking: Assist with the coordination of "matchmaking meetings" between CC members (private sector/stakeholders) and Designated Operators (national postal services).
2. Communication & Monitoring
- Community Management: Monitor member activities via various channels, including managing the CC WhatsApp community.
- Prospecting: Follow up on contacting prospective members and updating the prospect list.
3. Secretariat Support
- Administer mail and email correspondence (sorting, formatting, dispatching).
- Prepare lists, tables, and graphics upon request.
- Ensure the receipt of key documents like contracts and reports.
Eligibility Criteria: Who Can Apply?
The UPU has very specific rules regarding who qualifies as a trainee.
1. Student Status (Strict)
- Current Students: You must be enrolled in a university program.
- Recent Graduates: You are eligible only if you graduated within **six months** of the announcement date (December 18, 2025).
2. Skills & Competencies
- Office Admin: Knowledge of secretarial/administrative practices is essential.
- IT Skills: Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook) and Good knowledge of Excel.
- Soft Skills: Independence, flexibility, and the ability to work under stress.
3. Language Requirements
- Required: Excellent command (Advanced / UN Level III) of French OR English.
- Desirable: Ability to communicate in the other language (e.g., if you speak English, knowing French is a plus).
Remuneration & Logistics
- Pay: The job posting explicitly states: "The traineeship will be remunerated in accordance with current UPU Human Resources rules."
- Visa/Travel: While the internship is paid, travel and visa arrangements are generally the responsibility of the intern, though the UPU may provide supporting documents for the visa.
