The United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA) is seeking interns for its Capacity Development Programme Management Office (CDPMO). This is a vital office that manages the Department’s technical cooperation, including the UN Peace and Development Trust Fund.
Work Mode Flexibility: While the internship is designed to be In-Person (New York Headquarters), the UN has explicitly stated that "interns may work on flexible working arrangements (telecommuting)" upon agreement. This makes it a potential opportunity for international students who cannot relocate to NYC immediately.
Duties and Responsibilities
Interns work 35 hours per week (Full-Time) under the supervision of a staff member. Your daily responsibilities will depend on the office's needs but generally include:
1. Project Management & Coordination
- Assist in the coordination of projects related to Finance for Development, Public Institutions, and Sustainable Development.
- Support the "Junior Professional Officer" (JPO) Programme and other training initiatives.
2. Research & Analysis
- Drafting: Assist in research, drafting, and preparing analytical documents for high-level UN meetings.
- Data: Assist in collecting and sorting statistics and data.
3. Event Organization
- Help organize conferences, workshops, and collaborative events.
- Prepare internal documentation for these meetings.
Eligibility Criteria: Who Can Apply?
To qualify for the UN Internship Programme, you must meet one of the following academic requirements:
1. Academic Status
- Graduate Student: Be enrolled in (or have completed) a Master’s or PhD programme.
- Undergraduate Student: Be enrolled in (or have completed) the final academic year of a Bachelor’s degree programme.
2. Field of Study & Skills
- Field: Your field of study must be closely related to Public Administration, International Development, or Management.
- Software: Good knowledge of MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and MS Teams is required.
- Language: Fluency in spoken and written English is mandatory.
Important: Financials & Logistics
This is an UNPAID internship.
- Remuneration: Interns are not paid by the United Nations.
- Expenses: Travel, visas, accommodation, and living expenses are the responsibility of the intern.
- Visa: If working in-person in New York, non-US citizens must obtain a G-4 Visa. (Remote/Telecommuting arrangements do not require a US visa).
