Washington DC Summer Internship: ICT Launches WIPTA 2026 for Tibetan Students

The International Campaign for Tibet (ICT) has officially opened applications for the Washington Internship Program for Tibetan Americans (WIPTA) for Summer 2026. This is a prestigious opportunity for Tibetan American students to gain firsthand experience in US politics by interning directly in Congressional offices.

Successful applicants, known as "Lodi Gyari Fellows," will spend six to eight weeks in Washington, DC. The program provides round-trip airfare and a stipend to cover housing and living expenses. If you are a Tibetan American student looking to understand the legislative process and make a difference, you must apply before January 23, 2026.

Program Scope: What Will You Do?

This program is designed to cultivate the next generation of Tibetan American leaders. As an intern, you will not just be observing; you will be participating in the American political process. Your responsibilities will include:

• Congressional Work: You will work a minimum of 32 hours a week in a US Congressional office, gaining a firsthand view of policymaking.
• Training: You will participate in the WIPTA orientation and training programs organized by ICT.
• Reporting: You will complete weekly journals to document your learning and submit a final program evaluation.
• Networking: You will gain access to high-profile leaders and policymakers in Washington, DC.

Eligibility Criteria

To be considered for this elite program, you must meet the following requirements:

• Citizenship: You must be a US Citizen or a Legal Permanent Resident.
• Student Status: You must be currently enrolled in a full-time Undergraduate or Graduate degree program.
• Academic Progress: You must have completed at least one year of study by the time the internship begins.
• Background: The program is specifically targeted at the Tibetan American community.

Bonus Consideration

All applications for WIPTA will automatically be considered for the 2026 Tibetan Youth Leadership Program (TYLP), which is also planned to be held in-person in Washington, DC.
