MSCA Biomedical Engineering Fellowship 2026: Fully Funded PhD in Sweden (Apply by Dec 31)

Uppsala University, one of Europe's top-ranking research institutions, has opened applications for a fully funded MSCA PhD position in Biomedical Engineering. This fellowship is part of the prestigious EU-funded Print4Life Doctoral Network, which aims to revolutionize healthcare through 3D-printed biomaterials.

The selected doctoral candidate will receive a competitive monthly salary of approximately 37,000 SEK (gross). The research will focus on the additive manufacturing of zinc alloys to create next-generation biodegradable medical implants. Fellowship Overview & Key Details

About the Research Project

This PhD project addresses a critical gap in medical implants: finding materials that are strong enough to support bone healing but degrade safely over time. The Goal: You will use Powder Bed Fusion-Laser Beam (PBF-LB) technology to produce zinc-based alloy implants. These implants need to be mechanically strong while maintaining high corrosion resistance. The Network: You will be one of 17 PhD students across Europe, gaining access to training, international secondments (research stays), and industry collaboration.

Eligibility and Mandatory Requirements

This is a high-level research role governed by strict EU mobility rules. To qualify, you must meet the following criteria:

• Education: You must hold a Master’s degree in Materials Science, Biomedical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Engineering Physics, or a related field.
• Mobility Rule: You must NOT have lived or carried out your main activity (work/study) in Sweden for more than 12 months in the 36 months prior to recruitment.
• PhD Status: You must not already hold a doctoral degree and must not be currently enrolled in a doctoral program.
• Language: Excellent oral and written skills in English are required.

Preferred Skills

• Experience with Additive Manufacturing (specifically metal 3D printing).
• Knowledge of SEM (Scanning Electron Microscopy), mechanical testing, or corrosion testing.
