Advocacy and Policy Spring 2026 Internship at MADRE (Remote)

MADRE, a renowned international human rights organization founded in 1983, is seeking an Advocacy & Policy Intern for the Spring 2026 term. This is a fully remote position available to candidates eligible to work in the United States.
MADRE works to deliver sustainable gender, racial, climate, and disability justice. Their unique approach centers on grassroots partners and local leaders. As an intern, you will not be doing busy work; you will work alongside experienced human rights attorneys and policy experts to implement campaigns that focus on US foreign policy and international human rights arenas.
<>Key Responsibilities>
The intern will support the Advocacy & Policy Team in implementing campaigns rooted in feminist and social justice movements. Key duties include:
1. Research & Analysis
Conduct deep research and produce memoranda, reports, and briefings.
Thematic Areas: Women, Peace and Security; Sexual and Gender-Based Violence; LGBTQIA+ rights; Climate Justice; and Indigenous/Afro-descendant rights in conflict settings.
2. Monitoring & Reporting
Monitor developments in US Foreign Policy and international decision-making spaces.
Report on trends that impact MADRE’s advocacy goals.
3. UN Engagement
Follow and support MADRE's work in major UN processes, including:
Commission on the Status of Women (CSW)
High-level Political Forum on Indigenous Issues (UNPFII)
UN Security Council debates
<>Eligibility Criteria: Who Can Apply?>
MADRE is looking for future leaders committed to social justice. While they are open to undergraduates, the bar is set high.
1. Academic Status
Preferred: Currently attending or recently graduated from a Master’s degree program or Law School.
Accepted: Undergraduate students with strong applications are welcome to apply.
2. Skills & Interests
Demonstrated interest in Women’s and LGBTQIA+ rights, gender equality, and international human rights mechanisms.
Strong research, writing, and analytical skills are non-negotiable.
Languages: Proficiency (reading/writing/speaking) in Arabic, French, or Spanish is highly desired (though not required).
3. Work Authorization
Must be eligible to work in the United States.
<>Compensation & Logistics>
This is a flexible, part-time internship designed to fit around graduate studies or other commitments.
Total Compensation: $3,600 (Paid as a stipend).
Hourly Rate Equivalent: Approximately $20 per hour.
Commitment: 15 hours per week for 12 weeks.
Location: Fully Remote.
