Internship Overview & Key Details

Role Responsibilities: What Will You Do?

As an intern in the Global E-Commerce division, you will work on the systems that allow millions of users to discover and purchase products. Your code will directly impact the efficiency and security of the platform. Key responsibilities include:

• System Development: You will develop highly scalable and secure services that power e-commerce products.
• Optimization: You will optimize backend systems for modularity, computational efficiency, and data security.
• Data Services: You will design and develop analytics platforms and data services specifically for e-commerce applications.
• Privacy Engineering: You will implement best-in-class user privacy and data security practices.

Eligibility and Technical Requirements

ByteDance is looking for agile, quick learners who have a strong sense of product ownership. To qualify, you must meet the following criteria:

Mandatory Qualifications

• Education: Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical discipline.
• Programming Skills: Familiarity with backend development and at least one major language: Java, Golang, Python, Scala, or C++.
• Core Concepts: Basic understanding of data structures, algorithms, networking, and system design.
• Database Knowledge: Familiarity with databases and messaging frameworks like MySQL, Redis, or Kafka.

Preferred Qualifications

• Students graduating December 2026 onwards (with intent to return to school after the internship) are preferred.
