The Maryland Department of Information Technology (DoIT) is currently seeking a Legislative Affairs Intern for its upcoming program. This is a paid, hybrid opportunity based in Crownsville, Maryland, offering a competitive hourly wage of $19 to $20.

This role is specifically designed for undergraduate students (Freshmen, Sophomores, or Juniors) who either attend a Maryland school or are residents of the state. If you have an interest in how technology policy interacts with state government, this internship puts you right next to the Chief of Staff and Director of Legislative Affairs.

Role Responsibilities: What Will You Do?

As a Legislative Affairs Intern, you will assist in shaping the department's legislative strategy. This is not just administrative work; it involves substantive policy tasks. Your core responsibilities will include:

• Research & Drafting: You will conduct research and help draft legislative proposals that impact state technology infrastructure.
• Data Analysis: You will perform data entry and analysis to assist with complex problem-solving.
• Collaboration: You will work directly with office staff and key agencies on legislative issues.
• Strategy Support: You will support the department's overall legislative strategy under the mentorship of senior leadership.

Eligibility and Mandatory Requirements

The DoIT has specific residency and academic requirements for this position. To qualify, you must meet the following criteria:

Mandatory Qualifications

• Academic Status: You must be a Freshman, Sophomore, or Junior.
• Residency/Schooling: You must either attend a Maryland school OR be a Maryland Resident.
• GPA: A minimum 3.0 GPA is required.
• Work Authorization: You must be eligible to work in the U.S. (U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident). No H1B sponsorship is available.
• Availability: You must be able to commit to working 20 hours per week.
