MSK Cancer Center GEMS Program 2026: Paid Genomics Internship for Master’s Students (NYC)

Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK), one of the world's premier cancer centers, is inviting applications for its 2026 Genomics Experience for Master’s Students (GEMS). This is an immersive, full-time research program designed specifically for Master’s level students in quantitative sciences.

Selected fellows will spend 12 weeks (May 18 – August 9, 2026) in New York City, working on cutting-edge cancer genomics projects. The program provides a modest stipend, a nominal payment for housing expenses, and travel reimbursement. The deadline to apply is January 23, 2026 (note: this is distinct from the QSURE deadline).

Role Responsibilities: What Will You Do?

The GEMS program uses a unique dual-mentorship model. You will be guided by two experts: one quantitative/computational mentor and one scientific mentor. This ensures you learn how to translate raw numbers into real cancer medicine breakthroughs. Your training will cover:

• Data Manipulation: Learning to process large, multi-dimensional genomic datasets.
• Analysis Techniques: Mastering methods for data normalization, dimension reduction, and batch effect correction.
• Visualization: Using advanced software tools to visualize complex data patterns.
• Integrative Strategy: Developing strategies to analyze multi-modal data (combining different types of biological data).

Eligibility and Mandatory Requirements

This program is strictly for students already on a quantitative path. To qualify, you must meet the following criteria:

• Education: You must be currently matriculated in a Master-level program in Biostatistics, Statistics, or a related quantitative field.
• Technical Background: You need prior training in statistical theory, methods, and programming.
• Interest: You must demonstrate a strong desire to learn cancer genomics, even if you do not have prior experience in this specific area.
