UNICEF Eritrea has announced an urgent call for applications for the position of National Internship - Nutrition Officer. This opportunity is based in Asmara and is strictly open to Eritrean Nationals only. There are two (02) positions available for qualified candidates.

This internship is designed for fresh graduates or young professionals passionate about public health. Selected interns will work closely with the Ministry of Health and other government bodies to tackle malnutrition, a major public health challenge in Eritrea. The deadline to apply is very fast approaching: 03 December 2025.

Role Responsibilities: What Will You Do?

As a Nutrition Intern, you will support critical interventions to improve the health of children and women. You will work under the direct supervision of the Nutrition Specialist. Your key tasks will include:

  • Program Roll-out: Supporting the "One-child one-egg a day" program and fish powder production initiatives.
  • Supplements Transition: Assisting in the transition from Iron and Folic Acid (IFA) to Multiple Micronutrient Supplements (MMS) for pregnant women.
  • Vitamin A: Strengthening routine Vitamin A supplementation and monitoring charts.
  • Data Management: Strengthening nutrition information in systems like HMIS/DHIS2 at national and zoba levels.
  • Complementary Feeding: helping scale up the DMK+ (Dura, Milk, Kebkebe) feeding initiative.

Eligibility and Mandatory Requirements

UNICEF has specific criteria for this role. Since this is a National Internship, only Eritrean citizens can apply. Please check the requirements below:

Mandatory Qualifications

  • Education: You must have a Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Nutrition, Community Health, Health Promotion, Development Studies, or a related field.
  • National Service: You MUST provide evidence of completion or exemption from National Service. Applications without a copy of the card/exemption will not be considered.
  • Language: Fluency in English and the local language is required.
  • Experience: While fresh graduates are welcome, prior related work experience is an advantage.
