The Hungary Foundation (HF) is pleased to announce a call for applications for the Andrássy National Security Fellowship. This prestigious six-month fellowship program is aimed at cultivating the next generation of Hungarian strategic thinkers committed to strengthening ties between Hungary and the United States.
Conceived in the spirit and legacy of Hungarian statesman Gyula Andrássy, this fellowship supports scholars who demonstrate "great perspicacity" and large-minded views on European order. Fellows will be paired with a host institution in Washington, DC, focusing on Strategy and Statecraft, StratCom, Defense, and Energy Security.
Compensation & Benefits
The Hungary Foundation provides comprehensive financial support to ensure fellows can focus entirely on their research and professional development:
- Monthly Stipend: $6,500 USD per month to cover living expenses in Washington, DC.
- Travel Support: Roundtrip airfare and support for domestic professional travel.
- Visa Assistance: Full assistance with the visa application process.
Role Summary
Andrássy Fellows will undertake a specific research program rooted in their area of interest. During their time in Washington, DC, they will conduct independent research, participate in outreach to the U.S. policy community, and produce high-quality policy analysis.
This is an opportunity to work directly with host institution staff on a full spectrum of think tank processes, including policy briefings, brainstorming sessions, and program planning.
Key Responsibilities
The Fellow will:
- Conduct independent research based on a submitted plan.
- Initiate and organize public events related to their research interests.
- Feature an expert roundtable event hosted by their institution.
- Publish an analytical paper showcasing their work.
- Engage in networking and administration within the host think tank.
Who Should Apply?
We invite applications from individuals who are Hungarian citizens and meet the following qualifications:
- Experience: Young professionals with at least 4 years of relevant work experience, OR post-graduate scholars with at least 2 years of focused research.
- Academics: Outstanding academic credentials and English language skills.
- Values: Demonstrated commitment to transatlantic values.
- Leadership: Demonstrable leadership potential and ability to work independently.
- Research Focus: Interest in at least one of the following areas:
- Energy Policy
